After Yuma, we spent a night in North Phoenix, before continuing up to the Verde Valley, centered around Cottonwood, AZ. Our first activity was to go on this train ride through the Verde Canyon, an area only accessible by rail and horseback. Off on the right is a "slag pile", which is acres of waste product from the old copper smelting days.
